Obituary

Richard C. Hanauer, 68, of Utica, NY, passed away on August 19, 2026, at Wynn Hospital.

He was born on August 22, 1957, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Hartford, NY, the son of the late Bert and Pauline (Borwick) Hanauer. Richard was educated in the Utica City public schools and attended Mohawk Valley Community College.

Richard was employed by Rock City Box, now International Paper, making several friends in his 31 years of service.  

A collector at heart, Richard enjoyed collecting many things, including comic books, coins, stamps, and Matchbox cars.

He especially loved going to the movies and could often be found enjoying a good film. He is survived by his brother, Michael Hanauer and his wife, Cindy (Voss); his beloved nieces and nephews, Lauren (Elliott), Evan, and Connor (Justine); his great-nephew, Atticus; several cousins; especially his cousins, Ed and Barb Borwick.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the first responders and associated divisions for their care and compassion. And a heartfelt thank you to Juli for her professionalism, empathy and kindness during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, friends may consider donating to Anita Swan Humane Society or performing an act of kindness in Richard’s memory.
