Nancy E. Benson, 87, of Johnstown, NY passed away Monday, March 04, 2024, surrounded by her loving and devoted family.

Nancy was born on April 28, 1936, in Gloversville, NY to the late Gilbert R. Sleezer and Mary Martha (Hoyt) Sleezer.

Her sarcasm, wit, & hint of sass will gladly be carried on by her extended family. Nancy always said that her crazy family puts the “fun” in dysfunctional. Her smile could light up the room and she always proudly displayed one. She was a devoted wife, mother, Nana, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, aunt, & friend to many.

She is survived by her children; Brian Benson of Connecticut, Barbara Benson-Ward (David) of Johnstown, NY, grandchildren; Frances Cook (Jason) of Virginia, Katelynn Gartung of Amsterdam, NY, David Ward (Steven) of New Port Richey, FL, Nathan Ward of Johnstown, NY, Connor Benson of Gloversville, NY, 6 great grandchildren,1 great great grandson, 2 sisters who she adored and loved with her whole heart, who she fondly nicknamed, “Precious Patricia” Jones of Mayfield, NY & “Beautiful Bonita” VanNostrand of Gloversville, NY, along with several nieces and nephews. Nancy held a special place in her heart for her niece “her #1 girl” as she so lovingly referred to her, Terri Lynn VanNostrand Valo.

In addition to her parents, Nancy is predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, James “Jimmy” Benson, Jr., whom she wed on October 27, 1956. She always said, “It wasn’t love at first sight but, boy did he have a hot car”! Her son, Bruce Benson, who she missed horribly from the day he passed, her sister, Mary Jean LaDue, & her great granddaughter, Addison “Addy Cat” Cook.

Nancy never believed in goodbyes. Some of her last words were to tell her family she loved them and to not be sad. So, please celebrate the life Nancy lived and remember, it’s not goodbye, it’s until we meet again.

Arrangements are with Simple Cremation CNY, Utica, NY.
